Sand Arenas BOSS HORSE ARENAS

Sand Arenas BOSS HORSE ARENAS

Hopefully somebody has experience doing this! My farm has an existing sand arena. It was professionally done, and done very well. There is a solid base, it drains beautifully, and has an appropriate amount of sand on top (angular sand, enough for some cushion but not too deep). The arena is used year round in central KY for 4-6 horses a day for eventing, so we do dressage and jumping on it. It.. Rubber adds cushion to a sand footing and can prolong the useful life of the sand through decreased abrasion of sand particles on sand particles. While rubber can add some cushion to worn sand footing, for old, eroded sand the better long-term fix is to discard the failed surface material and replace with a new mixture.

Sand. Arena-footing sand must be of the angular type rather than the rounded sand naturally found on beaches. (The latter provides too much “shear”—slipping out from under a hoof.) An industry standard is “C-33” sand, which has the correct mix of particle sizes for footing; finer sand will break down and become dusty more quickly.. The physics of water cause the molecules to create a network between other substances. Water not only connects sand particles, it is also crucial in keeping footing products and sand particles bound together. When arena footing is dry, it loses its support, body, and traction. Water is a key ingredient in horse arena footing because it helps.
